Children Make Terrible Pets by Peter Brown
This book is great for ages 2-7, although as an adult I enjoyed reading it, and we did multiple times.
Lucy is a bear, Squeaker is a child, Lucy finds Squeaker in the forest and makes him her pet. It’s a great role reversal, the children love it. It would be great for those getting or asking for a first pet. The illustrations are simple, beautiful, clean and delightful.

We love this one and suggest this one for a keeper. We checked ours out from the library but hope to grab one for our home library.
